Matcha has been trending for a few months now, and while I have sampled latte’s and regular Green Tea, I am struggling to get on board with this hot drink. It has many health benefits, so I gave it one more shot – to give this unique tasting beverage my own spin. I also made a Rooibos Iced Tea with lemon, both versions are added sugar free and filled with antioxidants. I used 2 parts of tea to 1 part Fair Cape Apple Juice which is 100% pure apple and is naturally low in sugar. It was the perfect pairing to both of these healthy teas and is super easy to make.
Green Iced Tea
Ingredients:
- 2 Green Tea teabags
- 500ml boiling water
- 250ml Fair Cape Apple Juice
- Mint leaves
- Ice
Method:
- Steep tea bags in boiling water until it has cooled down.
- Discard tea bags and add Fair Cape Apple Juice, add a bunch of fresh mint leaves and ice.
- Enjoy cold.
Tips: You can add Chia seeds (1 tsp) into the tea if you want a filling drink, keep it in a water bottle and drink it throughout the day, or take to the gym to enjoy post workout. The chia seeds are high in vitamins and minerals, contain fibre, protein and antioxidants. If you’re worried about the flavor of green tea, it is a bottom note in this drink, which means you taste it last. The apple juice blends perfectly with the green tea and gives it a subtle flavor, while being naturally low in sugar.
Rooibos Iced Tea
Ingredients:
- 2 Rooibos teabags
- 500ml boiling water
- 250ml Fair Cape Apple Juice
- Lemon Slices
- Mint
- Ice
Method:
- Repeat steps as above.
Tips: This is a refreshing and healthy cold drink and a great alternative to soda since it has no added sugar. Store bought Iced Teas contain almost as much sugar as regular soft drinks.
Tips for a fizzy drink: These obviously don’t fall into the healthy category but if you want to make a non-alcoholic cocktail of sorts, fill iced tea into ice block container and freeze with individual mint leaves. Take ice tea blocks and put into a glass, pour over lemonade, ginger ale or soda water. Another tip is to blend iced tea blocks with lemonade or more Fair Cape Apple Juice for a slushy.
