Chai Spice Plum Jam
This Plum Jam is one of my favorites. You can spread it generously on freshly toasted bread or warm croissants for a comforting breakfast or snack. Incorporate it into your baking by using it as a filling for pastries, tarts, or thumbprint cookies to infuse a rich, spiced flavor. It can also be paired with cheeses like brie or goat cheese on a charcuterie board for a sweet and savory contrast. You can even mix it into plain yogurt or oatmeal for a unique twist, and let all the chai spices work their magic.
The great thing about making small batches of this plum jam is you can use what you have – even 2-3 plums; remember the ratio of fruit is equal to the ratio of sugar ☺️
Chai Spiced Plum Jam (small batch)
Ingredients:
1:1 ratio of fruit to sugar e.g.
300g Plums
300g Sugar
1tsp chai spice (ground cardamom, cloves, cinnamon)
10ml lemon juice
Method:
1. Roughly chop plums and add to a small pot with sugar, lemon juice and ground spices.
2. Simmer on medium heat until it reaches 104 degrees Celsius.
3. Sterilize a jar and fill with hot jam, seal lid tightly and refrigerate after opening.
Tips: You can leave the skins on your plums but if you want your jam to be clear and not cloudy it’s best to remove them.
If you don’t have a thermometer, you can check soft ball stage by either using some iced water or putting a saucer into the freezer and testing blobs of jam to see if it makes a soft ball with your fingers.
There you have it! Experimenting with this recipe allows for personalization, so each jar of chai spiced plum jam becomes a cherished addition to your pantry, perfect for enjoying or sharing with loved ones.
